In April 1993, I was given a new assignment.I was advised to handle a new product ( Gulde) in addition to the existing product ( Xomox) in North and West India.
My days of weekly commuting between Chennai and Trichy to handle Factory Operations was over and I was back to my forte-Marketing.
Before I took up this assignment, I made one trip to Calcutta in May 1993 to participate in the 25th Wedding Anniversary of Gurudas and Papacchi.They were then staying in Ichapur , near Calcutta.
Sachin was now close to 15 years and Sandeep was 12 .They were growing up nicely. Sudha was busy with her dubbing activities.
In Nov 1993, my company entered into an agreement with Fisher Controls, USA for manufacture of Control Valves in India and I was asked to set up the Marketing Team.The foundation stone for the new factory was laid in Karapakkam, Chennai on 5th Feb 1994.For the function, Sudha was asked to prepare the Rangoli.She contacted Chandra, our former maidservant when we were in T'Nagar. Chandra drew an elaborate peacock which drew Oohs and Aahs from all the foreign visitors.
In May 1994, our family and Sandhya's family along with my mom spent a few days in Kodaikanal where my company had a guest house.We drove down from Chennai in our Fiat and Ravi drove down from Bangalore and we met up at Batlagundu and drove up together to Kodaikanal.I remember there was a severe thunderstorm on the way up and some trees had fallen down on the road.We had a nice time cycling around the lake.Our Fiat was not quite able to climb uphill and every now and then, Sachin , Sandeep and Sunil had to get down and push the car from behind with encouraging shouts of " Come on Car" from Swati and Shruti.We also used to carry bricks in our car to prevent it from sliding back downhill.
Sandhya had brought Cup O' Noodles and we all enjoyed this.On the way back from Kodaikanal, we spent another 2 days in Hotel Femina at Trichy.
In Oct 1994, my friend Anantha Chinnivar asked me to participate in a Kannada Drama for a Drama Festival in Delhi for Horanadu Kannadigaru.I don't remember the name of the drama but we didn't win any prize.
In Nov 1994, I went to Singapore for 10 days for a Sales Conference.I stayed in Hotel Melia at Scotts on Scotts Road.Every day, I used to catch a bus in the evening and go to Serangoon Road to have my Dinner at Woodlands or Komala Vilas and then wander around Mustafa's. The retail revolution had not yet come to India and I used to stare in wonder at the displays.
I also remember watching John Wayne in "The Man who shot Liberty Valance" on HBO.
